A Self-consistent Model for the Resonant Heating of Coronal Loops: the Effects of Coupling with the Chromosphere

چکیده
We present the Ðrst model of resonant heating of coronal loops that incorporates the dependence of the loop density on the heating rate. By adopting the quasi-static equilibrium scaling law o P Q5@7, where o is the density and Q is the volumetric heating rate, we are able to approximate the well-known phenomena of chromospheric evaporation and chromospheric condensation, which regulate the coronal density. We combine this scaling law with a quasi-nonlinear MHD model for the resonant absorption of Alfve n waves in order to study the spatial and temporal dependence of the heating. We Ðnd that the heating is concentrated in multiple resonance layers, rather than in the single layer of previous models, and that these layers drift throughout the loop to heat the entire volume. These newfound properties are in much better agreement with coronal observations. Subject headings : MHD È Sun: chromosphere È Sun: corona È Sun: magnetic Ðelds È waves

Coronal heating in coupled photosphere-chromosphere-coronal systems: turbulence and leakage
Context. Coronal loops act as resonant cavities for low-frequency fluctuations that are transmitted from the deeper layers of the solar atmosphere. These fluctuations are amplified in the corona and lead to the development of turbulence that in turn is able to dissipate the accumulated energy, thus heating the corona. However, trapping is not perfect, because some energy leaks down to the chrom...
متن کاملThe Coronal Heating Paradox
The ‘‘coronal heating problem’’ has been with us over 60 years, and hundreds of theoretical models have been proposed without an obvious solution in sight. In this paper we point out that observations show no evidence for local heating in the solar corona, but rather for heating below the corona in the transition region and upper chromosphere, with subsequent chromospheric evaporation as known ...

Although, the hot solar corona was discovered more than sixty years ago, however, the exact dissipation mechanism that heats the corona is still unknown. Resonant absorption and damping of Alfven waves appear to be one of the major candidates in this respect. The corona is highly structured and inhomogeneous medium, containing a large number of discrete magnetic loops. In this paper a cylindr...
متن کاملNonlinear Mhd Simulations of Wave Dissipation in Flux Tubes
The phase-mixing and resonant dissipation of Alfv en waves is studied in both thèclosed' magnetic loops and thèopen' coronal holes observed in the hot solar corona. The resulting energy transfer from large to small length scales contributes to the heating of these magnetic structures. The nonlinear simulations show that the periodically varying shear ows that occur in the resonant layers are un...
متن کاملEvidence of nonthermal particles in coronal loops heated impulsively by nanoflares.
The physical processes causing energy exchange between the Sun's hot corona and its cool lower atmosphere remain poorly understood. The chromosphere and transition region (TR) form an interface region between the surface and the corona that is highly sensitive to the coronal heating mechanism. High-resolution observations with the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) reveal rapid variab...
